About EasternTime.net
How the clocks are calculated and which sources are used.
Privacy · Effective November 7, 2026
EasternTime.net uses Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to measure how the site is used, and Google Analytics sets cookies. The clocks, converters and sunrise times are still calculated on your device, and the maps load files from two outside services.
Usage data, through Google Analytics, as described in the next section. Apart from that, the site:
Every page loads the site's Google Tag Manager container from googletagmanager.com (its ID is visible in each page's source code), and Tag Manager runs Google Analytics. When you visit a page, Google receives your IP address, information about your device and browser (such as its type, operating system, screen size and language), the pages you view, the page that referred you, and interactions such as clicks that the analytics setup records. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies, such as _ga and _ga_<ID>, to tell one visit or visitor from another.
The purpose is aggregate audience statistics – which pages are read, how visitors find the site, which explanations are used – so the site can be improved. The data is processed by Google under its own terms; see the Google Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. How long the data is kept follows the retention settings of the site's Google Analytics property. Questions about this processing can be sent to [email protected].
Opting out does not break anything: the clocks, converters and sunrise times are calculated by the site's own scripts and keep working.
The time calculations. The live Eastern Time clock, the converters, the daylight saving countdowns and the sunrise times on city pages are computed in your browser from your device clock and the time zone database built into it. The site's own scripts do not transmit the times you enter into a converter, the clock values they display or your browser's time zone setting, which a few pages read locally to show an instant "in your time zone". Google Analytics records page views and events rather than the contents of what you type; it would capture form entries only if the Tag Manager container were configured to do so. Sunrise and sunset use the fixed coordinates of the city a page is about, not your position. The methodology on the About page explains the calculations.
On pages with an interactive map – such as the homepage, the city pages, the state pages and the time zone map – when the map comes within roughly 300 pixels of the screen. At that moment your browser downloads:
These services receive your IP address and the standard headers your browser sends, such as its user-agent string, language preferences and, depending on your browser's referrer policy, the address of the site. Tile requests also reveal which part of the map is on screen – normally the city or state the page is about, plus any area you pan or zoom to. The providers handle that data under their own policies, for example Esri's privacy information. If you never scroll to a map, none of these requests is made.
Possibly. Like almost every website, the pages are delivered by a hosting provider whose servers may keep standard access logs: IP address, date and time, the address requested, the response status, the referring page and the browser's user-agent string. Hosts keep such logs to operate the service and protect it against abuse. These logs are separate from Google Analytics.
If you write to [email protected], your message and email address are received like any email and are used to read and handle what you sent – for example, to check a correction. The site has no mailing list and does not use your address for marketing. You can ask for your correspondence to be deleted at the same address. The contact page explains what to include in a message.
If the site's practices change – for example, if another outside service is added – this policy will be updated and its effective date revised.
Yes, through Google Analytics, which sets first-party cookies such as _ga and _ga_<ID> to tell visits apart. The site's own scripts set no cookies and store nothing else in your browser.
Yes. Block cookies or third-party scripts in your browser, install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, or use a content blocker. The clocks and converters keep working. With JavaScript turned off, text and tables still work, but live clocks and maps do not.
The site never asks for your location. Google Analytics and the map providers do receive your IP address, which can indicate an approximate location, and Google Analytics reports such approximate locations as aggregate statistics.
No. The time and date you type into a converter exist only in the open page. The site's own scripts do not store them or send them anywhere, and they disappear when you reload or close the tab.
No. Text is set in your device's system fonts, diagrams are drawn as inline graphics, and there are no embedded videos, share buttons or social media widgets.
